Chef Jon Sears

Chef Jon Sears was raised with a love of cuisine which was first expressed in his catering business, Epicurean
Events.  Both his plates and his palette honor his Hawaiian heritage and reflect a flair for the exotic and the traditional.

Chef Jon Sears acquired The Dining Room in 1999, providing him with the perfect venue for his talents.  Emphasizing
the entire “dining experience,” he offered the more traditional format of a four-course prix fixe menu, as well as playful,
thematic tasting menus like “The Foie Who Loved Me” and “Mambo in Your Mouth,” which ranged from seven to
eleven courses.  The Dining Room became the only Bay Area restaurant to provide monthly tasting menus with wine
pairings perfectly complementing each course.

Under Chef Jon Sears’ direction The Dining Room received critical acclaim from the San Francisco Chronicle and
San Francisco Magazine for its incredible wait staff, peaceful ambience and exquisite cuisine.

By recently closing the restaurant to nightly dinner service, Chef Jon Sears has expanded his contribution to the fine
dining experience.  He is now available for off-site venues, as well as private dinners, special events, and interactive
cooking classes at The Dining Room.
Philosophy
“My main objective is to balance flavors and textures.
Everything else becomes presentation.”
Chef Jon Sears’ philosophy encompasses fresh ingredients, moderate
portions, and a strong esthetic sense.  For him, dining is about more than
just eating food.  His gracious and knowledgeable manner reflect a
hospitality reminiscent of old time Hawaii, inviting you to relax, and to
indulge.
