In September 2004, Chef Jon Sears of The Drunk Monkey Gourmet Club
and Executive Chef Scott Giambastiani of Viognier Restaurant started
organizing a campaign called Got Foie?  It was a direct response to California
State Senate Bill 1520, which moved to ban foie gras production in the state
of California by the year 2011.  As the only foie gras producer in the state,
Guillermo Gonzalez, President and Co-Founder of Artisan and Sonoma Foie
Gras has been targeted in the latest “what you shouldn’t eat” fad.

Chefs Sears and Giambastiani wanted to not only show support for the
Gonzalez family, who have been commended by multiple animal husbandry
experts for their high quality and ethical standards, but also respectfully
showcase the great meat called duck.  In April 2005, the two chefs held their
first Got Foie? event with Mr. Gonzalez as the guest speaker.  It was a 12
course dinner/discussion that was received with great success.

Got Foie? are a series of public dinners and hors d’oeuvre gatherings that
feature virtually everything from the duck.  During these events there are
discussions and question and answer sessions that are typically conducted by
Guillermo Gonzalez himself.  It is not only fascinating, but educational as
well.  We invite you to be a part of these unique gatherings.

Chefs Sears and Giambastiani are proud to be serving and showcasing a
product that is conscientiously farm raised in California to all culinary
enthusiasts that attend.  Their chief focus is to encourage people to obtain
the real facts of the foie gras issue rather than relying on emotional
influences.  Each individual has the right to make a decision for himself or
herself concerning what they like to eat and whether or not to eat it.

Whether attending an hors d’oeuvre event or a 12 course sit-down dinner,
the Got Foie? series is always informational and educational, blended with a
multitude of exciting tastes, textures and  combinations.
