Chef/Owner Jon Sears unveiled the Drunk Monkey Gourmet Club shortly
after his decision to cease traditional nightly dinner service at his highly
regarded restaurant, The Dining Room in San Mateo.  His concept was to
create a dining club for his guests in a private restaurant setting.  The Drunk
Monkey Gourmet Club, named partly after Chef Sears’ astrological sign,
the Monkey, is a unique blend of an upscale gourmet club with whimsical
notes.  Of course, monkeys are also just plain funny, and “when you put a
drink in a monkey’s hand, it’s even funnier,” Sears explains.

“It’s a delicate combination of fine dining, based on a theme, with theatrical
presentation,” he says.  “We try to make our guests feel like they’re on a
monthly global journey, treating them as if they’re the only ones in the
world.  It’s their club in which they can escape from their busy schedules to
dine in a secluded environment.”

Along with guiding diners on a culinary journey, Chef Sears is able to
produce a total dining experience.  Fueling his passion is the constant change
that the Drunk Monkey Gourmet Club offers.  With assistance from
Designing Event Coordinator Tara Solaegui-Ransfer and long time Director
of Service and Chief Head Waiter, everything from lighting to music,
ambiance and accoutrements are thoughtfully planned to accent and
complement the month’s themed dinner.

The Drunk Monkey Gourmet Club is open to all culinary enthusiasts.  The
Monthly Tasting Theme Menu is emailed to everyone that has requested to
be a part of this unique adventure.  The Seven Course Chef’s Tasting
Menu, with such titles as “Thai Me Up,” “A Gatsby Dinner” or “Mambo in
Your Mouth” typically range from $125 per person and up.  A billing
completion prior to dinner confirms your reservation.

We take pride in not having to press our guests for time or space, so
attendance is limited to a maximum of twenty guests per dinner.  Dinners
are every Saturday of the month, depending on holidays, and seatings begin
at 5:30 p.m.  To request a reservation time, guests may email their
information to
jon@chefjonsears.com to receive confirmation.  Please plan
for two and a half to three hours for you and your guests to enjoy the
Journey that is The Drunk Monkey Gourmet Club.
